About The Band

Cosmo’s Dream is a Tacoma-based Americana trio comprised of the husband-wife duo Steve (guitar) and Kristi Nebel (bass), alongside singer-songwriter Gen Obata (flat-pick guitar). The three met at a local folk event in 2012 and, after two years of informal jamming, officially launched the band in early 2015. Their sound is a blend of their distinct and seasoned musical backgrounds.

Steve and Kristi Nebel are accomplished troubadours, having honed their skills over a decade of performing across the United States, United Kingdom, and Japan. With ten CDs to their name, the Pacific Northwest natives are versatile vocalists and instrumentalists. Kristi’s background in theater adds a dynamic presence to their live shows, while a family history in barbershop singing informs her powerful harmony arrangements. Together, they also perform in the country swing band Cowgirl's Dream.

Gen Obata, a St. Louis native who relocated to the Pacific Northwest in 2011, is an acclaimed songwriter and flat-pick guitarist with a career spanning since the 1970s. Known for his muscular and melodic playing style, Gen was a key member of several award-winning bluegrass and acoustic bands in St. Louis before joining the Tacoma scene. He has produced two solo CDs and continues to perform with several other prominent bluegrass and alt-country groups in the region, bringing a rich instrumental legacy and unique songwriting voice to Cosmo's Dream.
